SAINT JOSEPH SCHOOL PRESENTS OUR VERY OWN
ACTS OF KINDNESS VARIETY SHOW KICK OFF!!

January 27, 2023 - SJS Gymnasium

Our annual Acts of Kindness (AOK) campaign is an opportunity for students to raise funds for their school and in return for any support received, pay it forward through acts of kindness. In prior years, we’ve kicked off the campaign with our adoring Rockathon. This year, we’ve decided to add a twist by kicking things off with a variety show hosted and performed by the students! Campaign information will be released soon but the current focus is to prepare for the show.

THE SHOW WILL ALLOW CHILDREN TO:

  • Strive to overcome stage fright and build confidence in a comfortable surrounding

  • Showcase talents while building spirit and excitement for the school community

  • Collaborate creatively with peers in a team setting

VARIETY SHOW FORMAT

Student performances will be integrated with an interactive, telethon-style show that aims to raise funds for SJS and participating charities! The show will take place in the gym in front of a live audience and also privately streamed. Auditions will be required and will play a crucial role in the final production so that we can:

  • Ensure the children are committed to and confident in their performance

  • Identify acts that are repetitive or similar in nature

  • Screen acts for appropriateness

  • Produce a high quality show behind the scenes in the coming weeks

The goal is to place an emphasis on teamwork. While a small handful of solo performers may be chosen, we strongly encourage group acts. Every student who auditions will be invited to participate in some capacity but should understand that adjustments will be necessary, and certain acts may be cut, combined or edited for time. Suggested routines include: comedy or other types of skits, magic tricks, use of musical instruments, dancing, etc. If your child doesn’t have a specific act, but wants to participate, he or she can read a short story or recite a poem during auditions, as emcees and other speaking roles will also be needed and sought out!

AUDITION GUIDELINES

  • Any student, grades K-8, currently enrolled at SJS may audition. PreK students will be involved via their teachers but do not have to audition.

  • A parent/guardian must accompany each act to auditions. Please arrive a few minutes early and depart immediately after

  • Students may not audition for or participate in more than one act however in certain scenarios, a child may be asked to take on additional show responsibilities, such as emcee, where needed

  • Acts may not exceed 3 minutes however acts may be cut down, or edited in order to fit into the show's final production

  • Props or instruments must be performance ready, reasonable in nature, and provided by the participant(s). Keyboard, song, and music player are available only

SHOW GUIDELINES & CODE OF CONDUCT
